“WAME & EXPO2015”: PRESENTATA L’ASSOCIAZIONE PER L’ACCESSO ALL’ENERGIA NEL MONDO

Roma, 11 marzo 2014 – Oggi presso la sede della Stampa Estera è stata presentata “WAME & EXPO2015” - “World Access to Modern Energy & Expo 2015” - l’associazione frutto dell’alleanza tra Expo 2015 S.p.A. e otto grandi società energetiche italiane ed europee: A2A, Edison, Enel, Eni, E.ON Italia, Gas Natural Italia, GDF SUEZ Energia Italia e Tenaris.    “WAME & Expo2015”, da qui all’Esposizione universale di Milano, vuole sensibilizzare l’opinione pubblica mondiale riguardo alla mancanza di accesso alle moderne forme di energia: promuovendo iniziative di ricerca scientifica, tecnologica, economica e sociale per eliminare e superare le barriere che rendono l’energia moderna poco accessibile; alimentando la conoscenza e la divulgazione delle buone pratiche e dei casi e progetti virtuosi già in essere nei territori. Ancora oggi un miliardo e trecento milioni di persone non hanno accesso all’elettricità;e  più del   40% della popolazione mondiale non ha accesso a infrastrutture energetiche con sufficienti standard di qualità e di efficienza.  Questo stato di cose accentua le situazioni di povertà estrema e provoca forti impatti sui cambiamenti climatici. Inoltre, circa il 38 % della popolazione mondiale non ha accesso a una fonte di energia pulita per la cottura del cibo e per il riscaldamento e continua a ricorrere alla tradizionale combustione di legna,  altri materiali vegetali e anche materiali di origine animale,  con un conseguente inquinamento dell’aria entro le abitazioni che reca danno alla salute umana.: l’Organizzazione Mondiale della Sanità stima che oltre 1,45 milioni di persone muoiono prematuramente ogni anno per questa causa. Incrementare le possibilità di accesso alle forme moderne di energia può contribuire a facilitare la disponibilità di risorse alimentari e acqua potabile, e a ridurre in modo significativo i livelli di povertà estrema nel mondo, rappresentando così un reale fattore di sviluppo per l’umanità. WAME apre il dialogo e la partecipazione al progetto al mondo delle ONG, delle Agenzie governative e internazionali e a tutti gli attori coinvolti nello sviluppo di questa tematica. Ogni contributo sarà validato scientificamente e reso accessibile e consultabile sul sito www.wame2015.org. Alla conferenza hanno partecipato i rappresentanti a livello di vertice delle società partner. “Credo che sia un dovere e una responsabilità anche del settore industriale dell’energia a livello mondiale – ha commentato il professor Pippo Ranci, Presidente di WAME & EXPO2015 e Presidente del Consiglio di Sorveglianza di A2A.  - farsi forza trainante dell’ambizioso progetto avviato dalle Nazioni Unite di rendere universale l’accesso all’energia entro il 2030. “WAME & EXPO2015”: ASSOCIATION FOR WORLD ACCESS TO ENERGY PRESENTED TODAY

Eight major energy companies of Italy and Europe and the Expo2015 company present the Association “World Access to Modern Energy & Expo2015” which works towards modern energy for all

  Rome, 11 March 2014 –  The “WAME & EXPO2015” Association has been presented today in the Foreign Press Premises. The Association is the result of an alliance between the Expo2015 company and eight leading European energy companies: A2A, Edison, Enel, Eni, E.ON Italia, Gas Natural Italia, GDF SUEZ Energia Italia and Tenaris.  “WAME & Expo2015” between now and the end of Expo2015, which will be held in Milan between the 1^st of May and the 31^st  of October 2015, aims to attract the attention of the world public opinion on the lack of access to modern energy, and raise the general awareness of the issue, making good practices and implemented projects better known, promote further research efforts in technology, economics and social organisation. Currently nearly 1.3 billion people have no access to electricity; and more than 40% of the world population does not have access to energy infrastructure with adequate standards of quality and efficiency. Such conditions aggravate the status of extreme poverty and strongly impact on climate change. In addition, around 38 per cent of the world population has no access to clean cooking and heating facilities, i.e. it relies on traditional combustion of wood and other vegetable and animal material with consequent household air pollution which causes damage to human health. The World Health Organization estimates that over 1.45 million people die prematurely each year from household air pollution due to this inefficient combustion. Wider access to modern energy is crucial for easing access to water and food resources and for the general goal of reducing extreme poverty and enhancing opportunities for human development. WAME invites NGOS, Governments, International Agencies and all active parties in this sector, to a dialogue and to participate to the project. All contributes will be validated at scientific level and made available on the web site www.wame2015.org.
